How Dog Insurance Works: Waiting Periods, Deductible & Co-insurance

Vet Exam Fees

Vet Exam Fees

Believe it or not, some insurers won’t pay your vet examination fee related to a covered illness or injury.

Waiting Periods

Waiting Periods

That’s the time between signing up and full cover starting. It lasts 14 days for illnesses but only 5 days for accidents, because we know things happen!

Annual Deductible

Annual Deductible

This is the fixed portion of the vet bill which the pet parent is responsible for. Some companies require you to pay a deductible for each new injury or illness that occurs. They call it “per condition”, we call it “not cool!”

Co-insurance

Co-insurance

This may sound confusing. Co-insurance is the portion of the vet bill which the pet parent will be responsible for vs. what the pet insurance will pay.

For example, with 80% co-insurance your policy pays 80% of a covered vet bill (after your deductible) and you pay 20%.

Dog Insurance FAQs

How do I add another dog?

Each dog needs its own policy and you will have to set each policy one at a time. To insure your cat, see cat insurance.

How do you calculate my premium?

In general, your premium is based on your dog’s age, breed and gender. Some other factors that impact your premium are: the plan you choose, your deductible, your co-payment, and any discounts for which you are eligible.

What is an annual deductible for dog insurance?

An annual deductible is the fixed amount per policy period (one year) that needs to be met before we would begin to pay benefits for covered claims, at the elected reimbursement amount. Only covered claims will be applied to your annual deductible. Your deductible will reset when your policy renews each year.

What if I am not sure about my dog’s age?

If you do not know the exact date of birth of your dog, please use your best estimate based on your dog’s medical records or shelter/rescue documentation. We will validate the correct age when reviewing your dog’s medical records.

Is dog insurance worth it in Lebanon?

Vet bills for surgery, cancer treatment or a long-term illness can quickly reach thousands of dollars. Dog insurance turns that risk into a fixed premium, so you can choose treatment based on what your dog needs, not on the price.

Which pets are eligible?

Comin pet insurance covers dogs and cats. This plan is for dogs; to insure your cat, see cat insurance.

What percentage of the vet bill is covered?

It depends on the co-insurance level you choose. Co-insurance is the share of the vet bill you pay; the rest is paid by your policy, after your annual deductible.

What do I need to get a dog insurance quote?

Your dog’s name, breed, gender and date of birth – or your best estimate – plus your contact details.
